What The Tech App of the Day: MAPSTR

What The Tech Mapstr

BY JAMEY TUCKER, Consumer Technology Reporter

The name of the app is Mapstr. It’s been around for quite a while and in that time, it’s built up
quite a following from people looking for things to check out, and from people who want to share
their advice.

Mapstr offers suggestions from real people who recommend a good restaurant or bar because
they’ve been there. Say you’re going to be in Las Vegas. Travelers have added favorite spots to
Mapstr with information on wh

at to expect and even what the place is known for.

Tap a dot on the map to see how many people recommend it. You can follow friends and
fellow travelers—some who’ve visited and recommended thousands of places. See one you
want to try and add it to your itinerary. And if you’re out and pass by one of those spots, you’ll
get a notification.

Sure Google Maps allows users the same options. But it’s all Mapstr does.

I found the app to be especially helpful when traveling abroad. France, where the app is
based, offers thousands of reviews and recommendations from locals. And what better way to
find an out-of-the-way jewel than asking someone who lives there.

Mapstr is a free app for iPhone and Android and viewing most maps cost nothing. Some
influencers do charge to see their recommendations.

If you’re not satisfied with Google Maps for travel recommendations, it’s an app you might
want to add to your menu.
