LBW Community College hosts Community Talk Back to bring recognition to World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide prevention Day is a day set aside to provide resources to families with loved ones who may face issues dealing with depression and or substance abuse.

For many who suffer with suicidal thoughts activities such as drug use, smoking, consuming alcohol and vaping are at times used to mask the feelings of selflessness. National days like World Suicide Prevention Day help showcase how these actions often increase depression, especially in women.
As with females who are more likely to have negative effects with nicotine and vaping, suicide targets a particular group as well and in 2020 veterans were 57.3% more likely to die by suicide.
The leading method for suicide for both veterans and civilians is with a firearm which is why at home gun safety is so important.
Therefore, educating parents, families, and the community at large of these dangers as well as noticing changes in behavior or red flags in speech or routine could save someone’s life.
