ALEA: Threat made to Alabama State University campus was false
ACTION 8 UPDATE: The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency says the threat made to Alabama State University was false.
ALEA says a swatting email was sent to ASU this morning. Agents from the State Bureau of Investigation responded to the
university to help campus police, federal law enforcement and local law enforcement.
ALEA says after a thorough search and investigation, officials confirmed there was no credible threat to students, faculty or staff.
ALEA says it has also seen reports of similar swatting emails and calls targeting universities nationwide. Federal partners are engaged in the investigation and are working closely with state and local authorities to address these incidents.
The Alabama Fusion Center is also assisting and will cotinine to provide intelligence support and coordination as authorities work to identify the source of the swatting email.
Alabama State University had canceled classes for the rest of the day, closing offices and canceling activities. Earlier today, people were told that once buildings were given the all-clear that they were to either leave campus immediately or to return to their residence halls to shelter in place.

At least six historically Black colleges and universities received threats or “potential” threats nationwide today. Besides Alabama State University, Southern University in Louisiana, Clark Atlanta University in Georgia, Virginia State University, Hampton University in Virginia and Bethune-Cookman University in Florida all reported threats.
