Council on Substance Abuse launches campaign to fight suicide
The Montgomery-based Council on Substance Abuse has started a new campaign to fight suicide.
COSA has announced the “R U OK?” campaign. Today, participants in the campaign are wearing yellow shirts with the “R U OK?” logo to help raise awareness.
The idea is to encourage people to from every corner of our community to check in on their family, friends and their coworkers to see how they are doing.
COSA leaders say you can start a conversation to let them know that you care.
“This is actually an international program campaign that started in Australia and it was started by someone who lost their father by suicide,” COSA Executive Director Shereda Finch told Action 8 News. “Because of that, across the world people observe this day to encourage individuals to check on their loved ones, friends and family. For COSA, this is our first year we are implementing this. We have over 30 organizations participating, and if you participate, we have provided free suicide prevention training.”
