Prattville remembers 9/11 anniversary with annual ceremony
The City of Prattville paused to remember the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks which killed nearly 3,000 people 24 years ago.
This morning, at the city of Prattville Public Safety Building, a ceremony was held. Â At 7:46AM, the radio call came out followed by a presentation of colors by the Prattville Junior ROTC, the national anthem by the Marbury and Prattville show choirs and an invocation by the Prattville police chaplain.
The ceremony is held at the same time the attacks happened in New York City, at the Pentagon in Washington, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where a jet crashed that had been taken over by the terrorists.
“As this day closed 24 years ago, America studied its resolve to hold accountable those who had attacked us and to ensure that it would never happen again,” Autauga County District Court Judge Jessica Sanders told the crowd. “The courage, heroism and resilience that Americans displayed on 9/11 and in its aftermath are a perpetual testament and yes, a testament even today to the spirit of our country.”
“The flags give the victims’ family, friends and all of America and the world a symbol that will forever memorialize all the men, women and children lost on that dreadful day. Those who died should never be relegated to numbers but must always be remembered as individual lives,” Prattville City Council President Pro Tem Robert Strichik said.
There were 2,977 American flags on display at the ceremony, representing the lives lost on that tragic day.
