September 11th terrorist attacks commemorated in Selma

People in Selma gathered to mark the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks – with a moment of remembrance – unity – and reflection.

A group of terrorists hijacked four planes and crashed them into the World Center — and the Pentagon. One plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania during a passenger revolt.

An event held at the foot of the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma commemorated the 24th anniversary of the attacks.

“I’m doing this to make sure Selma doesn’t forget, like the world hasn’t forgot what happened September 11, 2001,” said event organizer Bruce Holmes, Sr.

“I think it’s a very important event in the history of the country. And it should be commemorated and never forgotten by anybody,” said attendee Chris Peterson.

Holmes says he plans to make the United in Honor 9/11 Remembrance an annual event.
