Some Rain And Possibly Strong To Severe Storms Ahead

Summer heat isn’t done with us just yet.  We’re one more day of 90+ degree heat this week.  Fortunately, it’s short lived as a cold front moves into the state Thursday.  Not only will it break the heat but it will help generate some much needed rainfall.

In the meantime, we’re expecting a partly cloudy sky tonight.  Temps will only drop into the upper 60s for lows.  Moisture will begin to increase and there could be areas of fog early Wednesday morning.  The fog will lift and we’re back into a mostly sunny sky by midday.  Temps will soar into the 90s and we could see a few spots reaching the mid 90s.  Showers and t-storms will enter West Alabama during the late afternoon hours.  The rain activity will advance eastward with some of the storms strong to possibly severe.  The main threat would be damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph.

A cold front will make its entry into the state Thursday.  Looks like this frontal system will be our best chance see some measurable rainfall across the area.  Additional showers and t-storms will move across the region.  A few strong to possibly severe storms are possible Thursday into early Friday.  The main threat would again be damaging wind gusts. Rainfall potential will range between an inch to inch and a half.

We’re on the backside of the frontal system Friday afternoon.  A new surge of drier air will spill into the area and set us up for mainly dry weather conditions over the upcoming weekend.  A mostly sunny sky returns and we’re expecting highs temps in the mid 80s and lows lower 60s.
