The Helpers Tent comes to Capri Theatre in Montgomery

A traveling festival of hope has made its way to the Capri Theatre in Montgomery.

Inspired by Fred Rogers’ call to “look for the helpers,” The Helpers Tent transformed the theatre’s parking lot into a celebration of the Montgomery community. The gathering spotlighted local organizations, everyday heroes and offered interactive activities for people of all ages.

It was a way for neighbors to connect with neighbors, while they explored booths with different resources and honored the spirit of kindness and service.

“This is the reality of Montgomery, right? All this collaboration, networking, love, community, all this goodness really is the heart of Montgomery, and if we can refocus, and move forward with that, I think that’s the best thing that I could hope people to walk away with,” Joyce Vaughn, a team member with Map360, told Action 8 News.

“Love can feel great and love can be tough At times. Alright, so love is never promised to feel good. So I believe as a country, I believe as a community, it’s time for us to love each other through the pain and through the good — have these hard conversations whether we are willing to be comfortable or not? For us, really to just keep the future of this community at the forefront of our minds,” Montgomery artist Jonathan Michael said.

The Capri Theatre also held a special screening of director Nicholas Ma’s documentary “Leap of Faith”.
