Butler County Sheriff Department Speaks out about Inmate Safety and Facility Security Following Several Inmate Involved Incidents
The Butler County Sheriff’s Department is receiving ridicule following several incidents one of which involves three inmates found unresponsive in their jail cell.
According to official statements made by the Sheriff’s Department three separate incidents occurred within the Butler County Correctional Facility over the course of the past week.
The first incident involved three inmates sharing the same cell who were found unresponsive within their cell and taken to a local hospital. The hospital failed to administer a drug screening, therefor it is unclear if their sudden loss occurred consciousness is linked to substance abuse.Â
The same three inmates were then moved to another location within the facility where they created smoke using an e cigarette and a piece of tissue. The smoke from the tissue set off the fire alarms within the facility.
Then, in an unrelated incident a sprinkler jet was knocked from the wall causing flooding. Those inmates who were in the flooded area were moved.Â
Two of the three inmates involved have now been placed in different facilities.Â
The sheriff department is investigating each incident. Disciplinary actions for officers on duty during the time of the incidents is a possibility.
