Lowe’s presents $740,000 grant to J.F. Ingram State Technical College

The Lowe’s Foundation is giving J.F. Ingram State Technical College in Deatsville a big boost — a $740,000 grant.

The school is the first community college in Alabama to get this kind of support through Lowe’s Gable Grant program.

Ingram State Technical College is the only correctional education provider in the state. It offers adult education exclusively to those in the Alabama prison system.

The money will help bring in virtual reality training and expand hands-on shop learning for students in Electrical Technology and Industrial Maintenance. It’s giving students a chance to train like they’re already on the job.

“I cannot tell you how much it means to us as a college. We are accredited, we are part of Alabama’s community system, but it means something when somebody outside sees what we are working so hard for and what we are passionate about,” J.F. Ingram State Technical College President Annette Funderburk said.

“We are so grateful that you are transforming lives and we get to be a part of that. So we’re not only believing that we can do this, but we must do this work and so we are officially proud to present to you our Gable grant to this organization this great organization for $740,000,” Lowe’s Foundation chair Janice Dupre said.

Ingram State Technical College was one of only 12 new institutions selected from across the U.S. for this grant. Since 2023, Lowe’s has awarded $43 million in these grants to schools and nonprofits across the country.
