WSFA news director dies after cancer battle
All of us at Action 8 are remembering the life of a fellow Montgomery journalist, community leader and fierce competitor. Desmond Wingard, the news director at WSFA Channel 12, has died after a battle with cancer.
Desmond, who most folks called “Des”, had worked at Channel 12 since 1999.
He was also a Troy University graduate, known by many on campus over the years.
Des worked in various positions, moving up to become news director in 2022, leading their newsroom and touching the lives of countless people who worked with him.
He died today, at the young age of 46, but his efforts will live on at the station and in the community.
All of us at Action 8 News send our prayers to his family and everyone at Channel 12.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 5-7PM at Leak Memory Chapel at 945 Lincoln Road in Montgomery, and again at 10AM Sunday, leading up to a Celebration of Life Service at the chapel at 11AM Sunday. A graveside ceremony will be held Sunday at 1:30PM at Letohatchee Cemetery in Lowndes County.
