While today might be Halloween, one local civic club is already thinking about Christmas.

The Kiwanis Club of Pike Road is once again selling its ornaments featuring historic landmarks around the town.

This year’s ornament features Pinkston’s Grocery which used to be located at the corner of Vaughn and Pike roads where CVS sits now.

Barnett Pinkston ran the store from 1945 until his death in 1990. His store was a community hangout where gossip was shared and purchases were recorded on index cards until customers were ready to settle up, according to family members.

The ornaments, created by local artist Bruce Brannen, are $15 and all proceeds go toward the club’s scholarship program for Pike Road seniors.

The club has presented $27,500 in scholarships over the last four years.

The ornaments are available from Kiwanis Club members or by calling 334-303-1579.
