The City of Montgomery is adding a new year-round tribute to military veterans as it plans its traditional Veterans Day observances.

The City will be launching the Montgomery Hometown Heroes Banner Program to visually honor local veterans year-round.

This program allows family and friends to purchase commemorative banners that will be hung on poles throughout the downtown area.

Each banner will feature the veteran’s photo, name, rank, years served and branch of service.

The official website to purchase banners and view design and pricing details is scheduled to launch on Monday, November 10. More details will be available then.

On Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11, there will be a full day of activities. The commemoration will center on the Veterans Day Parade on Dexter Avenue, Resource Fair and Ceremony.

“Veterans Day in Montgomery is more than a single event; it is a profound declaration of gratitude from our entire community,” Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed said. “As a Regional Veterans Day Site, we are committed to providing our veterans with a fitting tribute and essential resources. This year, we are especially excited to launch our ‘Hometown Heroes’ banner program, giving families a lasting way to honor their loved ones who have served.”

The parade will begin at 10AM, featuring military units, high school bands, civic organizations and local veterans groups, all marching in tribute to those who served.

Following the parade, at 11AM, the community is invited to Riverwalk Stadium for a Resource Fair, offering on-site connections to vital services in areas such as healthcare, education benefits, employment and mental health support. Immediately after, the City will hold the official ceremony to honor veterans.

The City of Montgomery has been recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs as a prestigious Regional Veterans Day Site.
