Man arrested on contraband charge at Tutwiler Prison

A man has been arrested on a contraband charge involving the Tutwiler women’s prison in Wetumpka.

The Alabama Department of Corrections says Omar Muhammad was arrested yesterday.

ADOC says Muhammad is suspected of passing contraband to an inmate at the prison during visitation. It says additional charges may be pending.

ADOC says it made the arrest with the help of the Montgomery Police Department.  Narcotics Agents, along with police K-9 and SWAT units arrested Muhammad in Montgomery County. He was taken to the Elmore County Jail and charged with conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime.
