Fifth suspect charged in Montgomery mass shooting

Montgomery police say a fifth suspect has now been charged in the mass shooting that happened last month that left two people dead and 12 others injured, some seriously.

Police have charged 22-year-old Ivan Jarvis Floyd with certain persons forbidden to carry a firearm. Floyd was taken into custody yesterday and booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility.

Unrelated to the mass shooting, Floyd was also charged with:

  • Robbery First Degree, Theft of Property First Degree, and Theft of Property Second Degree that occurred on September 29 in the 5300 block of Rolind Drive.
  • Bond Revocation for Receiving Stolen Property Second Degree
  • Bond Revocation for Reckless Murder
  • Bond Revocation for three counts of Assault Second Degree
  • Bond Revocation for Promote Prison Contraband First Degree
  • Bond Revocation for Robbery First Degree

The mass shooting led to the deaths of 17-year-old Jeremiah Morris and 43-year-old Shalanda Williams. Morris was pronounced dead at the scene while Williams died at a hospital.

The shooting happened at approximately 11:31PM on Saturday, October 4, near the intersection of Bibb and Commerce streets, in the heart of the city’s downtown tourist district.

Of the 12 injured, seven are under the age of 20, with the youngest being 16 years old. Five had been listed in life-threatening condition, but police have announced that at least two of the five have improved enough that their injuries are now considered non-life threatening.
