YMCA of Greater Montgomery waives membership fees for federal workers affected by shutdown
The YMCA of Greater Montgomery says it will waive membership fees for all furloughed or unpaid federal employees affected by the ongoing government shutdown.
Officials say this applies to both current and new YMCA members and will continue on a month-to-month basis throughout the duration of the shutdown.
“If you’ve been affected by the government shutdown, the YMCA is here for you,” AJ Hernandez, President & CEO of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery said. “We’re waiving membership fees for furloughed employees and members impacted by the shutdown — because your well-being shouldn’t have to wait. The Y has always been a place of support, belonging, and
community. During times like this, we want our doors to remain open to those who need us most.”
The offer is available at all YMCA of Greater Montgomery branch locations, giving individuals and families access to wellness programs, fitness facilities, group exercise classes, and opportunities for community connection during this challenging time.
Furloughed federal employees and contractors can visit any YMCA of Greater Montgomery branch and show documentation of
their furlough status — such as an official furlough notice, recent pay stub showing $0 pay, an email from their employer, or a valid federal employee ID.
