ACTION 8 UPDATE: Water service restored in Marion; boil water notice issued

ACTION 8 UPDATE: Water service has now been restored in Marion, but residents are still having to take steps to make sure it’s safe to drink.

The City of Marion Water Department has issued a boil water notice that will be in effect until repairs have stabilized the water system and water quality can be tested.

Customers have been told to boil water for at least one minute if they want to drink it, use it for cooking, or to brush their teeth or prepare baby formula.

It is not necessary to boil water for bathing, washing hands or doing laundry.

The water department says this is standard procedure and doesn’t mean that the water is contaminated.

The reason for this action is that the City of Marion Water Department had two major problems last week — a major leak in the system, plus a pump and filtration system failure.

The pump and part of the filtration system had to be sent away for repairs, but those parts returned over the weekend to be reinstalled.
