A woman in Lee County has been charged with attempted murder and child abuse of her four-month-old daughter.

Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones says his deputies were called around 12:38 a.m.  to a home in the 200 block of Lee Road 212 in the Phenix City community.

Once deputies arrived, witnesses told them that 28-year-old Mireire Johana Garcia Lucero, of Phenix City, was trying to suffocate her baby.

Witnesses also said that Lucero choked and shook the baby to get her to stop crying.

First responders arrived on the scene and took the infant to Piedmont Hospital in Columbus, GA.

At the time of transport, the baby was alert and seemed to be in good health.

Lucero was taken into custody and transported to the Lee County Detention Center. She is charged with one count of torture and willful abuse of a child and one count of attempted murder.

She is being held in the Lee County Jail on an $85,000.00 bond.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651 or Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867).
