Montgomery police chief provides update on crime-fighting efforts
Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys has held a monthly briefing to update crime-fighting efforts in the city.
Today, Graboys said that his department has filed 116 felony charges so far this month, with 59 people arrested.
He said the charges include capital murder, assault in the first degree, unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle, firing a gun into a building or vehicle, juveniles charged as adults and robbery. Nine people arrested face multiple charges.
He took time to speak on the state’s permitless carry law for those carrying guns in public.
“A person who wants to carry a weapon in the state should be required to carry proper identification when they’re doing it. That way, law enforcement across the state can actually say, ‘Hey, this person is either on that list, which means I can hold them accountable,’ or ‘Hey yeah, this is John Q Citizen and have a nice day, sir.'”
Graboys says police have issued around 1,000 traffic tickets this month.
