Firefighters battle fire in downtown Montgomery
Montgomery firefighters are battling a fire that appears to be near or at the historic Sayre Street School building.
The fire is in the 500 block of Sayre Street, where the old school building is located.
The fire was reported at approximately 7:51AM. Multiple fire units have responded. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke coming from a two-story structure. Fire units are still actively fighting fire.
Residents in the vicinity are advised to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to perform their duties safely.
Traffic in the 500 block of Sayre Street Streets is currently restricted.
