Firefighters battle fire in downtown Montgomery
Montgomery firefighters are battling a fire that appears to be near or at the historic Sayre Street School building.
The fire is in the 500 block of Sayre Street, where the old school building is located.
The fire was reported at approximately 7:51AM. Multiple fire units have responded. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke coming from a two-story structure.
The fire prompted a third-alarm response, mobilizing approximately 60 firefighters to the scene.
Despite the intensity of the fire, there were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Bureau of Investigations.
Residents are advised to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to continue their operations and to ensure public safety. Traffic restrictions are in place on Sayre Street and surrounding areas.
