The Montgomery Biscuits baseball team has been sold to a newly-established owner, which is also buying another team.

OnDeck Partners, a new sports ownership group within the Avenue Sports Fund, announced today that it has purchased the Biscuits and the Visalia Rawhide. The Biscuits are a AA affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, while the Rawhide are a single-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, based in Visalia, California.

Terms of the deal have not been announced. The Montgomery Biscuits came to Montgomery in 2004, under the ownership of Sherrie Meyers. In 2017, the team was sold to a new ownership group headed by boxing promoter/television producer Lou DiBella.

The new owners released a statement, saying in part:

“We are excited to launch OnDeck Partners with these two acquisitions which represent our respect for the tradition of Minor League Baseball and our commitment to its future,” said Marc Lasry, Chairman and CEO of Avenue Capital Group. “OnDeck is building something special and important: not only supporting the success of the teams in which it invests, but also contributing to the dynamism of the communities in which they are located.”

“The new ownership is committed to advancing the Biscuits’ success by empowering the local staff and leaders who make the team special and forging even deeper bonds within the Montgomery community,” Montgomery Biscuits General Manager Mike Murphy said in a statement released to Action 8 News.

“As OnDeck Partners begins its journey, we see incredible opportunities to create unforgettable fan experiences and to enhance in-stadium offerings, resulting in stronger connections between local communities and the game,” said Mike Carney, CEO of OnDeck Partners. “The Biscuits and the Rawhide have both been long-time pillars of community spirit and entertainment. Our goal is to enhance these hometown team experiences, ensuring our ballparks remain places where communities gather, celebrate, and create lasting memories together.”

OnDeck says it wants to enhance the traditions fans love while introducing forward-looking innovations in game day entertainment, fan experience and community engagement. OnDeck Partners is led by a seasoned executive team with decades of operating expertise across professional sports, business, entertainment and community engagement, according to a news release.

The following is a letter the new owners have released to Montgomery Biscuits fans:

“Dear Biscuits Fans,
