Showers Saturday night, very cold Sunday through Monday night
Despite more clouds than sunshine and some showers, Saturday was a very warm December day with high temperatures in the 70s in many locations across central and south Alabama. More rain moves across our area Saturday night. A band of fairly heavy rain moved through Demopolis and Marion around 10PM Saturday evening. Rain continues southeast across our area overnight along a cold front, departing around sunrise Sunday.
Very cold air arrives in central and south Alabama Sunday. Temperatures may fall from around 60° midnight Saturday night into the 30s to low 40s by sunrise Sunday. Temperatures remain in the 40s Sunday despite the return of sunshine. Meanwhile, wind chills may remain in the 30s all day due to brisk north winds upwards of 15 mph, with higher gusts.
Sunday night looks very cold, with lows in the low 20s. Wind chill values fall into the mid-teens early Monday morning. Monday remains cold despite sunshine, with highs in the 40s to around 50°. Monday night also looks very cold, with lows in the low to mid 20s. Temperatures trend warmer Tuesday and beyond, with highs close to 70° Thursday and Friday. Another front brings a chance for rain Thursday, and may set up drier weather next weekend.
