Local warming centers open with frigid temperatures expected

With frigid temperatures expected, warming centers are opening in Montgomery and Elmore counties.

MONGOMERY COUNTY

In accordance with the City of Montgomery and the Emergency Management Agency’s cold weather plan (i.e., to provide a warming center when temperatures are forecast to be below 32 degrees for 4 hours or more), on Sunday, December 14, from 7:00PM to Monday, December 15, at 7:00AM, Montgomery will activate its Warming Center, located at The Crump Center (1751 Cong W.L. Dickinson Drive). Residents in need of shelter are welcomed during these times. No pets allowed inside the warming center.

Monday and Tuesday, December 15-16, the M Transit System, Route 8 (Gunter Park/Eastdale Mall) bus is scheduled to arrive and depart from the Crump Senior Center at the following times:

Transport passengers from the Crump Center

— Monday morning, December 15, the M Transit Route 8 (Gunter Park/Eastdale Mall) bus will depart the Downtown Intermodal Center (Outbound) at 5:30 AM and arrive at the Crump Senior Center at about 5:45AM

— Monday morning, December 15, the M Transit Route 8 (Gunter Park/Eastdale Mall) bus will return (Inbound) to the Crump Senior Center at about 6:30 AM and arrive at the Downtown Intermodal Center at 6:45AM

— Monday morning, December 15, the M Transit Route 8 (Gunter Park/Eastdale Mall) bus will depart the Downtown Intermodal Center (Outbound) at 7:00 AM and arrive at the Crump Senior Center at about 7:15AM

Transport passengers to the Crump Center

— Monday evening, December 15, the M Transit Route 8 (Gunter Park/Eastdale Mall) bus will return (Inbound) to the Crump Senior Center at about 6:45PMand arrive at the Downtown Intermodal Center at 7:00PM

— Monday evening, December 15, the M Transit Route 8 (Gunter Park/Eastdale Mall) bus will depart the Downtown Intermodal Center (Outbound) at 7:00 PM and arrive at the Crump Senior Center at about 7:15 PM.

— Tuesday morning, December 16, 2025, the M Transit Route 8 (Gunter Park/Eastdale Mall) bus will depart the Downtown Intermodal Center (Outbound) at 5:30 AM and arrive at the Crump Senior Center at about 5:45AM

— Tuesday morning, December 16, the M Transit Route 8 (Gunter Park/Eastdale Mall) bus will return (Inbound) to the Crump Senior Center at about 6:30 AM and arrive at the Downtown Intermodal Center at 6:45AM

— Tuesday morning, December 16, the M Transit Route 8 (Gunter Park/Eastdale Mall) bus will depart the Downtown Intermodal Center (Outbound) at 7:00 AM and arrive at the Crump Senior Center at about 7:15AM.

ELMORE COUNTY

Due to the overnight forecast for extreme cold wind chill temperature, Elmore County has activated the Safer Places program as Warming Stations. These are Warming Stations, and citizens must remember to bring all needed supplies such as water, food, snacks, chairs, blankets, and any other supplies.

Below are the locations and hours for overnight Sunday night until early Monday morning:

Sanctuary will be open 24 hours a day beginning Sunday afternoon

Deatsville Fire Department, 6930 Hwy 143, Deatsville, AL 36022
Will open on Sunday night at 7PM until Monday morning at 8AM

Tallassee Police Department, 214 Barnett Blvd, Tallassee, AL 36078
Will open on Sunday night at 7PM until Monday morning at 8AM

Coosada Town Hall/VFD, 5800 Coosada Rd., Coosada, AL 36020
Will open on Sunday night at 7PM until Monday morning at 8AM

Will open on Sunday night at 7PM until Monday morning at 8AM

Will open on Sunday afternoon at 2PM and will determine if they need to stay open at 8PM based on anyone using the facility.
