The Montgomery City Council and the Montgomery County Commission held meetings Tuesday to vote on additional funding for Jackson Hospital.

In October, the city council voted to approve up to $15 million for the financially struggling hospital after overriding Mayor Reed’s veto and amending the original ordinance that said it would guarantee the full amount.

That same day, the Montgomery County Commission agreed to provide $10 million in funding, bringing the total to $25 million to help Jackson.

The Montgomery City Council and the Montgomery County Commission voted in their separate meetings to split an additional $15 million. If approved, the total would be to provide $40 million.

The Montgomery City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the additional $7.5 million, but in a 2-2 vote with one abstention due to a conflict of interest, the Montgomery County Commission vote failed to pass.

The state had agreed to match the funding 50/50 from the county and the city. If all had passed, the total funding would be $80 million. As of right now, the funding total stands at $65 million.

Action 8 News was at both meetings this morning. We’ll have more on this developing story.
