Umbrella Alert For Thursday

The cold air has long departed and now we’re setting up for a wet Thursday. Southerly winds have kicked in bringing moisture and warmer air northward into the area.  Rain will begin working into the area overnight and  become more widespread Thursday.

We expect a mostly cloudy sky and eventually light rain to move into southwest Alabama overnight.  Temps won’t be near as cold as they have been lately.  Morning lows will be in the mid to upper 40s.   A frontal system will be passing through the state Thursday.  Southerly winds will continue to transport gulf moisture and warmer air into the region. Periods of rain will advance through our area throughout the day and evening.  We could even hear a rumble of thunder Thursday evening. Rainfall is expected to be a quarter to a half inch but one inch is possible over Southeast Alabama.   We’re on the backside of the frontal boundary and returning to a sunny sky Friday.  The air is a bit colder behind the front and temps will once again drop to around the freezing mark overnight Friday.

Our upcoming weekend is looking fairly mild with temps warming again.  We’re expecting mid to upper 60s for highs and lows in the upper 40s to lower 50s.   Another frontal boundary will make a run at the state late Sunday into Monday. This boundary will help generate our next round of rain activity early next week.  The rest of the week, including Christmas Day is looking rather warm for December.  We should see high temps still climbing into the upper 60s and some spots surpassing 70 degrees for highs.  We’re definitely not expecting a white Christmas around here this year.
