Opelika woman dies in Lee County crash

A two-vehicle crash in Lee County has claimed the life of an Opelika woman.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 280 near the 103 mile marker, approximately two miles west of Opelika.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency say 81-year-old Betty Burke was critically injured when the car she was driving hit an SUV.

Burke was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment. She died from her injuries two days later.

No word if the driver of the other vehicle was injured.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
