Alabama Shakespeare Festival presents sensory-friendly “Frozen” performance
The Alabama Shakespeare Festival has offered a sensory-friendly performance of its musical of Disney’s “Frozen.”
This special show this afternoon was aimed at providing support for those affected by sensory processing challenges.
The non-profit organization KultureCity helped train staff on sensory inclusive modifications, including keeping house lights on through the performance, reducing loud sound effects and providing quiet spaces.
“We really consider the whole life experience for someone who has sensory needs and want them to be able to have that full-life experience. There’s no reason to sit at home and not feel like you can do everything everybody else can,” Caroline Sease, the development director for KultureCity, told Action 8 News.
“This is something that has been done at ASF; it’s been a few years. We were just really excited to bring it back because all of us here believe that it’s just very, very important to reach this audience and allow this audience the opportunity to enjoy the work that we do,” Alabama Shakespeare Festival Artistic Director Quin Gresham said.
ASF plans to use this training to provide sensory-inclusive performances for all productions in the future.
