Tuskegee University police chief arrested in Georgia
The police chief at Tuskegee University has been arrested on a DUI charge in Georgia.
The university has confirmed that its police chief Kareem Easley was arrested on New Year’s Day in Sandy Springs, which is a suburb of Atlanta.
According to Atlanta TV station WSB, Easley was arrested for driving the wrong way on a one-way street and for DUI. He was taken to jail in the city of Smyrna.
Easley was hired at Tuskegee University police chief in October, after being chief at Trenholm State Community College in Montgomery. He has more than 20 years of local, county and state experience in law enforcement.
The university has released a statement on his arrest, saying, “Tuskegee University is committed to the rule of law and will not rush to judgement pending a full internal investigation. In an abundance of caution, Chief Easley has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation. Assistant Chief Darrius Jones will serve as Acting Chief of Police during this period.”
