James Graboys marks one year as Montgomery police chief

Tuesday, January 6, marks one year since James Graboys was announced as permanent police chief for the city of Montgomery. So how have crime numbers changed?

As Action 8 News showed you last week, there were 61 homicides in Montgomery in 2025, the same number as the year before.

They are down from 2023, when the city recorded 75 homicides.  In 2022, the number was 62.

There were 77 homicides in Montgomery in 2021.

Of course, there are other categories involving crime besides homicides.

Action 8 News hit the streets to ask you whether you feel better about crime in the city as we enter the new year. Watch the video above to see what people told us.

Graboys will hold his monthly media briefing this afternoon. Action 8 News will have coverage.
