Warm weather continues; Rain, storms return Friday into Saturday

Thursday was a mainly cloudy but very warm day across central and south Alabama. High temperatures were in the mid 70s for most, about 15° above normal for early January in our area. Despite the clouds, it was another mainly dry day. However, rain and storms return Friday. Meanwhile, our area remains dry Thursday night, with low clouds and fog possible again late. Temperatures only fall into the upper 50s to low 60s.

Despite a partly to mostly cloudy sky with rain and storms arriving during the afternoon, Friday looks very warm again with high temperatures well into the 70s. Multiple rounds of rain and storms affect our area between Friday afternoon and Saturday. Some storms may become severe, capable of damaging wind and perhaps a few tornadoes. Additionally, rain amounts of 2-4″, with locally higher amounts of 5″+, may result in flash flooding.

A flood watch covers the northwest half or so of our area from 6AM Friday to noon Saturday. A slight (level 2/5) severe risk covers the west part of our area Friday through Friday night, with a marginal (level 1/5) severe risk further east to I-65 and north of I-85. A marginal severe risk covers all of our area Saturday. Rain and storms finally exit our area late Saturday as a cold front pushes through our area. Colder air returns Sunday through next week.
