CAMPAIGN 2026: Hampton Harris enters District 2 Congressional race

CAMPAIGN 2026: Montgomery native Hampton Harris has qualified to seek the Republican nomination for the U.S. House District 2 seat.

Harris is a small business owner and is an attorney. He says he wants to help maintain Republican control of the U.S. House to help President Trump.

So far, he is the only Republican who has qualified to run. Qualifying lasts until Friday, January 23.

The District 2 seat is currently held by Congressman Shomari Figures, a Democrat. He won the district in 2024 after the courts changed the district lines so that Alabama would have a second district that is majority Black, or close to it.

The primaries are May 19.
