How to honor life of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in Montgomery
Monday, January 19, is the federal holiday to honor the life and work of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. There are several ways you can honor his memory in Montgomery.
Here’s a look at some of the events:
There are Day of Service events that start at 8AM at Riverwalk Stadium, at 8:30AM at the Cleveland Avenue YMCA and at 8:30 AM at the Sanctuary on Goldthwaithe Street.
Parades are taking place at 9AM in downtown Prattville and at 10AM in downtown Montgomery.
A program will be held at 11AM at the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church.
A Family and Fun Unity Day takes place from 1-5PM at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl.
The Equal Justice Initiative is offering free admission to its Legacy sites across downtown.
And The Rosa Parks Museum is offering half-price admission.
Dr. King spent part of his career in Montgomery. He was pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church from 1954-1960 where he helped lead the Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955-56 and start the modern Civil Rights Movement.
