Alabama Democratic Caucus releases agenda for legislative session

The Alabama Democratic Caucus has released its agenda for this year’s session.

Democratic House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels released the party’s list of priorities during a press conference at the State House Tuesday

The group wants to grow the economy, prioritize healthcare, focus on making it easier for farmers to sell products directly to consumers, make it easier to vote, and address gun violence.

“We are going to introduce legislation to look at a way to make investments to local farmers in order to start driving down cost, but also incentivizing those grocery stores that do business with local farmers, so that we are able to become more competitive with the pricing,” said Rep. Daniels. “That’ll drive some of the pricing down and it’ll end up being worth more than one cents or two cents, but it’ll be worth a lot more and make it more affordable for these families.”

Rep. Arline Clarke, out of Mobile County, said she has introduced a bill that would allow blind and disabled voters to get assistance when needed when voting absentee.

Democrats will need help passing their agenda because they are the minority party in the legislature.

There are 29 Democrats in the 105-member House of Representatives and 8 in the 35-member Senate.
