The Dallas County Commission and the Dallas County Water & Sewer Authority announce two grants. The awards will help address ongoing water and sewage issues.

Waka Dcgrants0121 PkgThe first of two grants announced at a press conference Thursday morning — provides a half-million dollars to improve issues caused by deteriorated asbestos-concrete water mains.

The second grant — is even bigger. And it’ll address the persistent sewage issues that have plagued the community for years.

The projects aim to improve the quality of life for hundreds of residents who live in the Selmont community.

“We have been given a grant by ADEM that is $4.2 million dollars,” said DCWSA GM Courtney Cunningham.

“And it will address our sewer issues and it’ll include lift stations and waste water treatment plant.”

“After we get these grants in and get this work contracted out, we’re looking for a much better system,” said Commissioner Connell Towns.

County officials tell Action 8 News that both projects will get underway this year.
