Town of Pine Level receives ATRIP-II award to help with interstate exit improvements

Governor Kay Ivey announced Wednesday more than $40 million in state transportation funding to help with various road and bridge projects across the state.

The funding is made possible through the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program II, or ATRIP-II.

One of those recipients is the Town of Pine Level.

The $2 million award will help with interchange improvements on the I-65 southbound ramp at Exit 186.

Mayor Zachary Bigley says the project has the potential to east traffic congestion and improve safety in the area.

“It’s just a major boost for us with the 186 exit,” said Mayor Bigley. “It’s such a pivotal place for us in Pine Level. We are brand new and we are growing the exit that has probably about 50,000 vehicles a day passing through there, so this is one step in the direction to help try to alleviate some of the congestion to bring economic development to our area.”

Of the 25 awards given by Governor Kay Ivey’s office, Pike and Tallapoosa counties also received funding for various projects.
