Coaches react to AHSAA reclassification separating public and private schools
It was a groundbreaking day for high school sports in the state of Alabama. The AHSAA approved a new classification system that separates public and private schools for championships.
The previous system’s competitive balance rule forced private schools to move up to higher classifications if they reached certain levels of success. There was a lot of debate about whether this was fair.
The new system gets rid of that.
It includes six classifications for public schools and two classifications for private schools.
And while private and public schools will not be in the same classifications or regions, they will be able to continue to play each other during the regular season.
Area coaches discussed what impact this will have on them.
