Storm cleanup continues in area near Huntingdon College in Montgomery

Crews are cleaning up widespread storm damage in an area near Huntingdon College in Montgomery.

A severe storm passed through the city around lunch time yesterday. While there were reports of trees and power lines down in several parts of Montgomery, the most damage has been around the college, which is in the Cloverdale area of town.

This morning, Action 8 News spoke with Robert Dowd, the cleanup crew leader for CMT Tree Service, who says they worked through much of the night and returned early this morning, cutting up fallen trees and clearing a passageway so that residents could get to their homes to begin repairs. The company is contracted to work for the city.

The company says right now, they have about 22 jobs in this cleanup process with a couple in the Dalraida area, but most of their cleanup will be in the Huntingdon College area.

The cleanup job might take a couple of weeks.

Homeowner Bill Weaver says he was at church when the storm came through, and when he got home, he saw the destruction on his street.

“My main concern is the electricity because that’s how I heat my house, and I have to have that for the water. If I don’t have electricity, if I don’t have heat, my water might freeze,” Weaver said.
