Opelika police say a driver with several guns in his possession is under arrest after hitting a female’s car from behind and then striking it with several bullets.

Police say at around 3:47 this morning, they got several calls reporting suspicious activity around South 10th Street and Avenue B, which is near the Lee County Courthouse.

Police say an officer spotted a person driving erratically and stopped the car. They say 32-year-old Jonathan Collins Donnan was the driver. They say he was waving a rifle, yelling incoherently and appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance. They say he had several guns.

Officers say a female victim told them she was traveling on Avenue B when Donnan’s car struck her vehicle from behind. As she got out, she said Donnan accelerated toward her, causing her to jump to avoid being struck.

Police say she said she tried to drive away, but Donnan followed her in his car and tried to strike her again. She was able to escape and call 9-1-1.

Officers say they found several bullet holes in her vehicle. They say her vehicle was shot after she had driven away.

Donnan was taken to East Alabama Medical Center, where he remains in the custody of the Opelika Police Department pending multiple criminal charges.

The victim was treated at the scene.
