Should Alabama only offer driver license exams in English?
A bill in the Alabama Legislature would require all state driver’s license exams to be offered only in English.
Republican State Rep. Phillip Pettus of Lauderdale County filed the bill. He says it would ensure drivers can understand signs and communicate with law enforcement.
This bill would require English for both written and behind-the-wheel exams while banning the use of translators, interpreters or dictionaries.
Right now, Alabama offers the driver license exam in 11 languages.
Opponents say the bill is cruel and inhumane.
