40,000 pounds of food donated to Heart of Alabama Food Bank in honor of nation’s 250th birthday

In celebration of the country’s 250th birthday, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is making major donations across the nation, including to the Heart of Alabama Food Bank in Montgomery.

It has donated 40,000 pounds of food to the food bank as part of an America 250 celebration. 250 semi-trucks are delivering food to food banks in all 50 states.

As part of the celebration, volunteers boxed up food at the food bank.

America 250’s goal is to have 2026 be the largest volunteer effort in U.S history.

The food bank appreciates the support.

“Everybody’s focused during the holidays on food insecurity, and then we roll into this time where people will go back to the normalness of life, and we’re still sitting here trying to meet the needs of our community and to have a full truckload of food donated with shelf-stable items is huge for us. It’s impactful and we’re very appreciative,” Heart of Alabama Food Bank CEO Michael Coleman told Action 8 News.
