Montgomery County Sheriff Derrick Cunningham named National Sheriff of the Year
Montgomery County Sheriff Derrick Cunningham now has a new distinction.
The Alabama Sheriffs’ Association announced on social media that Sheriff Cunningham has been named the 2026 National Sheriffs’ Association Sheriff of the Year.
The distinction is said to be one of the most prestigious honors in law enforcements, recognizing outstanding leadership and service.
“Sheriff Cunningham has made a lasting impact on Montgomery County through innovative initiatives that strengthen public safety, enhance the quality of life for residents, and promote meaningful community engagement—while consistently upholding the highest standards of professionalism and service,” said the association in the post.
Sheriff Cunningham was chosen from more than 3,000 sheriffs nationwide.
