Two dead in Troy University police chase

Troy University police are investigating a chase that ended with two people dead.

It started around 1:48 a.m. Sunday on Elm Street near campus when an officer observed a car stopped.

When the officer attempted to approach the vehicle, the driver took off at a high rate of speed.

The officer followed the vehicle and a short distance later, the car left the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Both occupants of the vehicle, the driver and the passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers identified the people in the vehicle as 52-year-old Rosolando Givens and 45-year-old Alkesa Liptrot. Police say both were residents of Troy, but not Troy University students.

State troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency are investigating the incident.
