Action 8 News was on the scene in west Montgomery where an ALEA special agent was shot this evening.
ALEA has confirmed that a special agent assigned to ALEA’s SWAT Team was struck by gunfire during an officer-involved shooting at approximately 5:51PM, according to ALEA Capt. Jeremy Burkett.
The shooting happened in the 4000 Block of Longleaf Drive in Montgomery, which is in a neighborhood off U.S. Highway 80 near the Montgomery Regional Airport.
The special agent was taken to a hospital for treatment.
ALEA says the shooting happened when ALEA’s SWAT Team and officers assigned to the Metro Area Crime Suppression (MACS) Unit were working an enforcement detail in Montgomery.
The situation is under active investigation. ALEA says no further details are available at this time. It has not been confirmed whether anyone else was injured.
Gov. Kay Ivey posted her thoughts on X tonight:

ALEA says it’s asking for prayers and support for the special agent, the agent’s family and the members of ALEA.
Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed issued this statement:
“Our city is praying tonight. We are heartbroken to learn that an Alabama Law Enforcement Agency special agent serving on the Metro Area Crime Suppression team was injured while working to keep people safe here in Montgomery. We are lifting the agent, their family, and fellow officers up in prayer during this incredibly difficult time.
“While ALEA is leading this operation and will provide official updates, I want to make clear that the City of Montgomery stands firmly with ALEA and the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect our community.
“Moments like this remind us that public safety is not abstract. It is personal. It is human. It is brave individuals running toward danger so others do not have to. We are grateful to ALEA and all partnering agencies for their work, and we will continue to support them in every way appropriate. Right now, our focus is simple: pray for healing, pray for strength, and pray for the safety of every officer and agent serving tonight.”
Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys released this statement:
“Along with our prayers, the Montgomery Police Department stands in full support of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency during this difficult time. We are committed to providing any resources or assistance they may need as this active investigation moves forward.
“Tonight’s incident is a sobering reminder that there is truly no such thing as a routine day when wearing a law enforcement uniform. Every call for service carries uncertainty, and the risks our officers face are real. We ask that the citizens join us as we pray for the special agent’s recovery.”
