Hundreds come out to Mardi Gras in downtown Montgomery
Hundreds packed Dexter Avenue and the Court Square for Mardi Gras in Montgomery Saturday.
The celebration had plenty for the entire family to enjoy. There was live music to dance to, plenty of great food from local vendors, as well as arts and crafts for the kids which included Mardi Gras mask painting.
There were stilt walkers and a Disney princess you could get pictures with, fire performers, and living statues which all brought that New Orleans Mardi Gras feel right to downtown Montgomery.
“I just like the culture of Mardi Gras and being able to come out here and be immersed in different cultures and its history, plus all the different family activities that are family oriented,” said Patrice Fikes, of Montgomery.
“I think it’s just an amazing celebration of all these different people around coming together, being close with one another, and strangers talking to other strangers just being nice. That’s all we need,” said Marvin Johnson, of Fort Mitchell, Alabama.
“Montgomery is the capital, and it’s the heart of Alabama. It gets such a bad rep sometimes, and that’s not the full story of Montgomery, so I like to see the love, the unity, and the diversity. I just love everything about it, it’s great,” said Kelson Palmer, of Montgomery.
The celebration ran from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
