Pay It Forward: Marilyn Sayers of Tallassee

Marilyn Ayers of Tallassee can usually be found volunteering her time at a local nonprofit. Those close to her say she’s making an impact in her community in ways she doesn’t even know.

Since retiring, Sayers volunteers at ACTS, also known as the association of Christians in Tallassee for Service.

They provide food, a clothing pantry, and utility assistance for those in need. Sayers says volunteer work is her calling.

“It’s just something I’ve always had a passion for. And once I retired, I just knew I wanted to do some type volunteer work,” says Sayers

Marilyn opens her hands, takes in the clothes and sorts them and gets them ready. And then she opens her heart as people come in.

She also volunteers at her church, and every year oversees an annual Christmas program, which provides toys to 100 kids.

Her nominator says Angie Jolly says Marilyn is always willing to be a team player. She describes her as being reliable, positive, and ready to help anyone that walks through the doors. And she does it all with a smile on her face.

“In Deuteronomy it says that we should have open hands and open hearts. And when I see Marilyn, that is exactly what I see. I see a person who is so willing to do for others,” says Jolly.

That’s why Stewart Vance with the Vance Law Firm is paying it forward to her.

Marilyn says she never fully realizes the impact of her actions until later/

“I do meet people in a grocery store or Walmart or somewhere. And I’ve been thanked before, ‘thank you for what you did.’ and I’m just a small part of a large organization of volunteers,” says Sayers.

“There are so many people that have been blessed by her. We are very fortunate to have someone like Marilyn in this community,” says Jolly.

As for the $333, she is a little undecided on what she wants to do with it.

“I’ll have to think about that. Some of it will be spent at this coffee shop, Im sure. I am so appreciative but feel so undeserving. But so appreciative. I do thank Angie, even though she’s going to be in some trouble when this is all done and said,” says Sayers.
