ONLY ON 8: Selma mayor reflects on first 100 days in office

ONLY ON 8: Selma Mayor Johnny Moss III sits down with Action 8 News to discuss his first 100 days in office.

“It’s been busy, the busiest I’ve ever been in my life. But it’s been great,” Mayor Moss told Action 8’s George McDonald.

The mayor says the first 100 days have been used to set the tone for his administration and city government as a whole.

“I always want to lead by example. So, I’m the first to be here and the last to leave, and just raising the bar of expectations so that they know that we’re here to serve our citizens.”

Moss says areas identified as top priorities during his assessments include public safety, public works, code enforcement and fiscal responsibility.

“We want to have a safe city, a city that’s clean, so that we can attract business and industry. One of the things that we’re  moving towards is an updated financial system. This system will allow us to gather all of our budgetary issues in one module. It will make our, just basically city hall run a lot smoother, a lot efficiently and more effectively.”

Moss says a major improvement has been to have his office and city council working together consistently.

He says in the spring, the city will begin to focus on fixing potholes and repairing streets.
