Strong Tower Church hosts free dental care event in Montgomery
Free dental is hard to come by, but it was available Friday and Saturday right here in Montgomery.
The Strong Tower Church and the Strong Foundation partnered with the Shelby County Baptist Association to give free dental care to residents in and around Montgomery.
Much of the dental work included pulling teeth, cleaning cavities, getting fillings, or just a routine teeth cleaning. The dentists and health professionals came from the Troy area and the Maxwell Air Force Base, and they did their work in a mobile dental unit.
In Alabama, Medicaid does not cover dental care for those aged between 18 and 64, so this event helped many people get the care they needed.
“We believe that Christ has told us to be zealous and to do good works, and we also believe that this is a great need because dental access is so hard to come by if you’re an adult and don’t have insurance. We want to be a blessing to other people by meeting that need and also bringing the community together to let them know that there are people here who want to look out for them and encourage them and that we have a lot to learn from each other,” said Terrence Jones, Pastor at Strong Tower Church and executive director of the Strong Foundation.
“It helps me out a lot, I mean really. This helps a lot of people out a lot too. This way, they don’t have to go far out to get their teeth cleaned or teeth pulled. Everything here is free,” said patient and Montgomery resident, Melanie Harris.
The event started at 8:00 a.m. and ran into the afternoon on 2840 Boys Club Road Friday and Saturday.
