The Montgomery Police Department has announced the death of a long-time officer.

Montgomery police Lt. Tina McGriff says Corporal David Hathcock died on Sunday, February 22. He joined the department in January of 2006.

Hathcock died of injuries related to an on-duty vehicle collision that occurred on November 9, 2025, at the intersection of Taylor Road at Vaughn Road, the department said.

“Corporal Hathcock wore the badge with courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to duty. Throughout his career, he left an incredible legacy within this department, from the generations of officers he trained and mentored, to the countless citizens he protected and served,” Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys said.

“The impact of his sacrifice for this city will continue to be felt for years to come. He helped shape the culture of professionalism and integrity that defines our agency.

“Beyond the uniform, David was a devoted husband to his wife, Katie Hathcock, and a proud father to his two daughters. His love for his family was evident to everyone who knew him. He was loved dearly by his fellow officers, and we will miss him more than words can express.

“Corporal Hathcock’s life was a testament to service, sacrifice, and steadfast character. May the memories of the good that he did inspire us all to live and serve with integrity and honor. Today, we mourn together as a department and as a community, trusting that comfort will come even in the midst of profound sorrow.

“On behalf of the men and women of the Montgomery Police Department, we honor Corporal David M. Hathcock’s life, his legacy, and his faithful service. He will never be forgotten.

“We ask that you keep Katie, his daughters, and the entire Hathcock family lifted in prayer during this difficult time.

“Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”
