Man to spend life behind bars for shooting at Montgomery gas station

23taylormaricas021326A man recently found guilty for attempted murder and illegally possessing a gun in 2022 will now spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Montgomery County District Attorney Azzie Oliver says Judge Monet Gaines sentenced Maricas Taylor to life in prison without parole for his role in the shooting that occurred at a gas station on Fairview Avenue in 2022.

Authorities say Taylor entered the business and began an argument with the cashier.

Taylor then left the business and came back 30 minutes later wearing a mask.

Video surveillance showed Taylor approached the victim and fired at her multiple times. Thankfully, the victim was not hit.

Officials say Taylor then fled the scene and was later arrest by authorities.

“The court’s decision ensures that Maricas Taylor will no longer have the opportunity to harm innocent people,” said District Attorney Oliver. “I want to commend the extraordinary work of our prosecutors, investigators, and law enforcement partners who built a thorough and compelling case. I also recognize the courage of the victims and witnesses who came forward despite the trauma they endured. Their strength made this outcome possible.”

Under Alabama law, Taylor was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to his extensive violent criminal history.
