Alabama averaged $2.64 a gallon a week ago and $2.54 a gallon a month ago.
Locally, the highest average price is in Perry County, at $3.03 a gallon. Montgomery County is not far behind, with an average of $2.99. The lowest average price is in Tallapoosa County, at $2.84 a gallon, according to AAA.
The spike follows the strikes on Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route. Iran has also launched retaliatory attacks targeting oil infrastructure in several oil-rich U.S. allies in the region.
